REINA, ADOPTADA

RESERVADA
Hola:

Reina's Tale

http://www.galgonews.com/2007/12/reinas-tale.html

Thin, emaciated with shocking burnt paws, a young brindle galga wandered the streets of Seville. A galgo carer, Lola, pulled into the carpark of the local supermarket, and the galga appeared and allowed herself to be stroked.
Returning to her car with food for the dog, Lola, found the dog had disappeared. As she opened the boot of her car to put the shopping in, the galga appeared again, and amazingly jumped into the car. Usually they are too timid and take time to be caught.
Lola took her home and named her Reina. The recuperation process began, worming, de-flea treatments, treatment from the vet for her paws. But danger lurked as she was being walked one day.
A galguero approached Lola and asked for the dog.
Lola rushed home to make some calls, intending to find Reina another home, as she feared the dog would be stolen. And she was, whilst Lola was in the shower. Hysterical, Lola and her associates began their search for her. Posters, word of mouth, confronting the builders on the site overlooking the garden of the house, everywhere.
Reina had tested positive for Leishmania*, although it had not affected her organs, so she wears a tag saying leish positive. So she would be no good for hunting or breeding.
Pressure was applied to the area where they suspected the thief had come from stating denuncias were in place and a few days later a car was spotted by the house and a bundle was thrown out. Lola called and amazingly the dog ran back to her.
By this time it was clear Reina could not stay in Seville, and is now being fostered in Barcelona.
Reina is looking for a forever home. She is good with other dogs, cats and children. If you can offer Reina safety and the love she has only just come to know, contact Aurora at aurorafep@gmail.com or comedelrio@hotmail.com (English speaking)

* Leishmania is a disease caused by the sandfly. It can be treated, just one tablet per day, and the dog can lead a perfectly normal life. For more detail please see An Overview of Leishmaniasis.
